18 Lives Saved by Brazil Community Donor Pool (08/08)

Ezer Mizion's Bone Marrow Donor Registry (BMDR) - the largest Jewish Registry in the world today - aims to assist patients who are waging an uncompromising life and death struggle with over 100 different illnesses.  Requests for donor searches reach Ezer Mizion's Bone Marrow Registry from transplant centers throughout the world.  In its brief existence Ezer Mizion's Registry has been instrumental in making thousands of donor/patient matches and facilitating hundreds of lifesaving transplants throughout the world.

Ezer Mizion's Registry includes personalized Donor Pools which have been sponsored by individuals, communities or groups who contribute a minimum of $25,000 to sponsor tissue typing for potential bone marrow donors who join the Registry.

One of the Registry's largest personalized pools is the Brazil Community Donor Pool. Since its establishment in 2006, the Brazil Community Donor Pool has sponsored the joining of 26,434 new potential stem cell donors to the Registry.

The activities within each personalized pool are closely monitored and every time a stem cell transplant is made the Donor Pool Committee or sponsors are informed. The Brazil Community Donor Pool has now become the first personalized pool to reach the landmark of "CHAI", eighteen, when the eighteenth lifesaving transplant was performed from a stem cell donor in the Brazil Pool.

At this milestone, Ezer Mizion renews its commitment to saving lives and salutes the Brazil Community Donor Pool for their partnership with us in this vital project.
