The chagim are at hand, and in preparation, Ezer Mizion is going into special high gear. As in the past, Ezer Mizion will be enabling thousands of families to get through the yom tov season with dignity and joy.
This year, for the chagim of Tishrei 5769, Ezer Mizion will be helping more than 3,000 families with food baskets and hot meals. 15,000 cooked meals will be distributed to families of ill or hospitalized patients. 2,500 families will receive food packages amounting to a total cost of half a million shekel (about $150,000).
Our Transport Department is also mobilizing for the upcoming holidays with extra staffing to service the sick, handicapped and elderly.
Our ambulance drivers are readying themselves for a much larger sphere of activity than usual, both in terms of the areas being served - from and to all parts of the country, and in terms of the hours of activity, which will be much more extensive than usual. The ambulances will assist people with mobility limitations reach their families and celebrate the chag together with them.
The Respite Program - which arranges short-term hosting for children with special needs - is coordinating hundreds of boarding arrangements for the duration of the yomtov season.
The Program's aim is to give parents of children with special needs a break from their round-the-clock care of the child, allow them breathing space in which to recharge their batteries and to give undivided attention to the rest of the family. The complex challenge of raising a child with special needs demands enormous emotional and physical resources and can easily cause parents "burn out". Ezer Mizion, in cooperation with the Welfare Department, runs this highly successful Respite Program, which also gives the children a hosting experience filled with positive attention by the hosting families.
Ezer Mizion's Beit Chana Activity Clubs for children with special needs will carry on during the yom tov season with a special, augmented schedule. Hundred of children with special needs participate throughout the year in Ezer Mizion's 14 activity clubs across Israel, in a warm, professional framework. Ezer Mizion comes through for these children and their families in the yom tov season as well, with many of the activity clubs functioning on erev chag and on chol ha'moed .
In Bnei Brak, the Beit Chana Activity Clubs will include a full range of activities for the children even on yom tov itself, including pick-up service by volunteers from the childrens' homes.
