Israel Responds To Violence With Chesed

Ezer Mizion Provides a Lifeline for Arab Resident of the South

"It was simply a miracle," says Dalit, a social worker at the Yoseftal Medical Center in Eilat.

As the Hezbollah continued to blast Katyusha rockets into Israel and make life a living hell for the terrified residents of the north, and Gazan terrorists fired Qassam rockets toward the western Negev, a human drama unfolded that belied the escalating hostilities.

Ahmed, an Arab patient from the Negev under treatment in the oncology ward at Yoseftal, needed urgent treatment that the hospital was unable to provide.  They made arrangements for him to be treated at the Rabin Medical Center in Petach Tikvah and arranged helicopter transportation to the nearby Sdeh Dov Airport. However, Ahmed had no way of getting from the airport to the hospital.  With 25 shekel in his pocket and with great consternation in his heart, he boarded the helicopter.

At 10:30 Dalit called Hinda Schwartz, Ezer Mizion's coordinator of Volunteer Transportation Fleet. At 12:00, Ilan, a retired kippa-clad IDF officer, was waiting at the Sdeh Dov Airport near Tel Aviv.  After calming down Ahmed, and allaying his fears, Ilan drove him to straight to the hospital for treatment.
