Giving - It's in our Blood (05/08)

Recently, as a result of a shortage in its blood reserves, Magen David Adom (MDA) turned to Ezer Mizion with a request for help to rally blood units and boost its depleted reserve.  In response, Ezer Mizion immediately conducted an emergency blood drive at its Bnei Brak headquarters, and collected 300 units of blood.

Ezer Mizion conducts blood campaigns several times a year in various cities, due to the high demand for blood.  During 2007, Ezer Mizion collected over 2,700 units of blood in various campaigns in Bnei Brak, Modiin Elite, Jerusalem, and other locations. This was made possible with the help of dozens of volunteers who worked until the wee hours of the night.

Ezer Mizion's blood bank is used for emergencies, for people without families, and others who have no one to turn to for blood.  "Every donor that comes to us enlarges the blood bank and makes it possible for us to help additional people," stresses the director of the blood bank.

When there is an urgent need for a specific type of blood, Ezer Mizion contacts the appropriate registrant - often in the middle of the night, on holidays, etc. This inconvenience rarely keeps anyone from foregoing the privilege of saving a life.

Additional campaigns are planned at other Ezer Mizion branches in the future.
