Hadassah Medical Organization Expresses Appreciation (04/08)

"Top rate medical care by physicians and nursing staff is the most crucial element in the care of hospitalized patients, but the kind word and personal attention of visiting volunteers has proven to work wonders in the patients' wellbeing and health situation." (Results of a study made at Hadassah)

About two years ago, the management of Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center in Ein Kerem approached the Jerusalem branch of Ezer Mizion, requesting that volunteers be sent to the hospital to distribute snacks and light drinks every night - and most importantly, to enquire about the patients' welfare.

Ezer Mizion immediately responded to the call for help and under the able direction of Mrs. Rachel Weiss, coordinator of volunteers at our Jerusalem branch, women began visiting  six departments at the Hospital every evening. When the initiative proved successful, another five departments were added.

Hadassah recently held a special event, at which representatives of the senior staff, the nurses, and the patients expressed their great appreciation for the volunteers' contribution to the well-being of the patients.

The director of the Continuing Care Department, Mrs. Amalia Schneider, noted the great devotion and dedication of the Ezer Mizion volunteers, who carry out their activities with precision, professionalism and smiling faces, throughout the year, in all weather.  She reported that, according to a special survey taken at Hadassah, the volunteers contributed significantly to the improvement in the patients' health.

Mr. Udi Shauloff, a member of the senior staff, praised the volunteers, noting the great importance that the management attributes to their work.  He requested that Ezer Mizion expand its activities to the remaining departments.

During the ensuing discussion, the volunteers made suggestions about ways to enhance the efficiency of their services. It was decided to hold ongoing meetings between the management of Hadassah and Ezer Mizion.

The event was concluded with a guided tour of the famous Chagall stained glass windows in the hospital synagogue.
