\"pr<\/a>\u25a0 IN 1996, Moshe Schayek, a young man
\ndesperate for a bone marrow transplant,
\nturned to Ezer Mizion in the hope of finding
\na matching donor. Ezer Mizion’s Cancer
\nSupport Division helped his family coordinate
\na bone marrow drive, and the response
\nwas amazing. Some 5,000 people lined up
\nin Jerusalem, wanting to help save his life.
\nUnfortunately, it was to no avail. No match
\nwas found and Schayek died. But he left a
\nlegacy that has enabled close to 10,000
\nother people in 48 countries around the
\nworld to live. The search led to the establishment
\nin 1998 of Ezer Mizion’s International
\nBone Marrow Donor Registry, which is
\nheaded by Bracha Zisser.
\nAs of August 1, 2016, the Registry has
\ngrown to include 818,266 potential donors,
\nof whom 394,379 are IDF recruits who
\njoined the registry following a landmark
\nagreement between Ezer Mizion and the
\nIsrael Defense Forces, whereby new recruits
\nroutinely undergo testing as part of their
\ninduction process.
\nOn Sunday, September 19, in celebration
\nof the 10th anniversary of this collaborative
\nlifesaving effort between the IDF and Ezer
\nMizion, 650 soldiers will receive Gift of Life
\nmedals at a special ceremony at the President’s
\nResidence, in the presence of President
\nReuven Rivlin, Hagai Toplansky, commander
\nof the IDF’s Personnel Directorate,
\nBrocha Zisser and Ezer Mizion founder Rabbi Chananya
