Just like every other Wednesday. Miriam* got the kids off to school, straightened out the house, put in a load of laundry and then left for her <strong>volunteer job<\/strong> delivering hot meals to families spending hours at a hospital bedside.\u00a0 <!--more-->Sometimes it\u2019s an elderly parent who is ill, sometimes it\u2019s a spouse or a small child. For the <strong>caretaker<\/strong>, the hours are lonely and filled with angst. Vital decisions have to be made and the <strong>caretakers<\/strong> are drained, running on empty.\u00a0 Their faces light up when Miriam arrives in the Ezer Mizion uniform bearing a hot, nutritious meal spiced with a warm, compassionate smile. Knowing that someone cares makes all the difference. There was time for a break before heading home to meet her son\u2019s bus. She headed to the <strong>hospital<\/strong> cafeteria to purchase a cool, refreshing drink. As she approached the cash register to pay, she was told by a smiling clerk that her drink was already paid for.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHuh? What do you mean? I didn\u2019t pay yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo but that man over there paid for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Completely puzzled, Miriam turned to the man at the nearby table. \u201cThank you but do you mind telling me why you paid for my drink?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_747\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-747\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ezermizion.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pr-lk-pix-preparing-food.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-747 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/ezermizion.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pr-lk-pix-preparing-food.jpg\" alt=\"pr lk pix preparing food\" width=\"200\" height=\"139\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-747\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nutritious meals prepared attractively to boost the spirits of family members dealing with serious illness<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI see by your uniform that you are from Ezer Mizion. My family and I have been receiving Ezer Mizion meals for weeks.\u00a0 You have no idea what the meals and warm words of sympathy from your team mean to us. I couldn\u2019t resist the opportunity to express our appreciation and give back a little bit\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Miriam smiled at him and wished him well. Then she walked, no, not walked \u2013 she\u00a0 floated &#8211; towards her car. Appreciation can do that to you.\u00a0 Even before she turned on the ignition, she sent an email to her fellow Ezer Mizion <strong>volunteers<\/strong> so that they, too, will fully understand what it is they do each week.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_743\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-743\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ezermizion.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pr-LK-20132.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-743 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/ezermizion.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pr-LK-20132-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"pr LK 2013\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ezermizion.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pr-LK-20132-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ezermizion.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/pr-LK-20132.jpg 637w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-743\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The bright spot in the day when a caring volunteer arrives with food for the body and nutrition for the soul.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Her story will be added to the many other stories like the time a group of people at a hospital emergency room, including a maintenance man working nearby, clapped and clapped as slightly embarrassed <strong>volunteer<\/strong> approached. And the story of the man who had just given a generous donation the night before and then found himself in the <strong>hospital<\/strong> caring for his young son, now the recipient of the chessed he had donated for. Story after story\u2026meal after meal\u2026Ezer Mizion is always there when it hurts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ezer Mizion provides services to over 660,000 of Israel\u2019s population annually in
