In a municipal initiative launched in Bat Yam for Rosh Hashanah, some 2,400 families were identified as suffering from nutritional insecurity. Five hundred of these needy families, who receive ongoing support throughout the year, were given special food packages for the holidays. The Municipal Social Services Division distributed an additional 250 packages to families in need of special assistance.
Among the charitable organizations who collaborated in the municipal initiative were Ohavim, Ezer Mizion, Ezra Migad, Birkat Hacohen, and Meir Hashemen, which help some 1,500 families on a regular basis.
A campaign to collect food items took place from Sept. 14-18, under the motto “Giving in the city creates a strong community,” with manned stations at City Hall, schools, community centers and large food chains. The following week, in the afternoon hours, food was distributed for the holidays at three main distribution points, among them, the Ezer Mizion branch office on Chaviva Reich St.
Mayor Yossie Becher praised the collaboration and said: “The joint effort ensures that all residents will live with nutritional security and will be able to celebrate the holiday properly, with a generous, festive spread.”
