It takes a village to raise a child, as the saying goes. And it takes a whole community to care for a cancer patient. Ezer Mizion is constantly thinking up new ways to bring joy to a cancer patient, raising his spirits and enabling him to better fight the monster that seems to be ravaging not only his body but his whole emotional being. But we could never do what we do without the support of the community.

A young girl named Hila looked very down. The volunteers who visited her were concerned. The fears, the frequent treatments that took her away from her friends and the normal life of a young girl. It was so hard. During the conversation, she mentioned how wonderful it would be to do something normal. Pottery was one of loves. It didn’t take long for the volunteer to find a studio who was willing to host her, treating her like a queen, all at no cost of course.
Other businesses have also come on board. Once every fortnight, the Ezer Mizion Women’s Club for women dealing with the challenges of illness meets for a morning of renewing their strength to continue the battle. A light breakfast to share and support begins the morning. The ladies eagerly await the activity which will wash away the despair, leaving sunshine in its place. Today it was a flower weaving workshop. At the end, one of the girls shared with tears: “I arrived this morning with no strength, after a night and a day that had only crying and pain. I had been thinking about giving up. I’m leaving now so happy, full of energy and motivation to continue the treatments! “
This is the power of this meeting, of this community, and of the volunteers, volunteers who bring so much good.
There are no words. And a big thank you to Avia Cohen from “Herzliya Flowers” who volunteered to deliver this morning’s special workshop and making sure that each participant felt like a queen!
Just two of the many businesses who understand that the bottom line is not the bottom line and put their efforts into creating a ‘savings account’ of chessed for the community. May Hashem bless them with much success!
Along with cancer’s frightening medical repercussions, the dreaded disease brings with it a host of other challenges, and drains families’ physical, emotional and financial resources. The Ezer Mizion Cancer Support Division offers cancer patients and their families comfort, love and support, as well as an array of services tailored to meet their unique needs.
The hospitals deal with the patients’ clinical rehab. But who will give them a word of encouragement? A helping hand? A shoulder to lean on and a listening ear? And who will cry along with them when necessary and comfort and bolster them with a kind word? Who will play Lego or ball with the children? Who will do homework with them? And who will help the family of a cancer patient whose parents are compelled to be at his bedside for long days? Who will keep the other children at home busy? Who will support the family when both parents are thrust into a crisis situation and are unable to carry the heavy burden alone? The list of questions is very long, but the answer can be condensed into five words: Ezer Mizion’s Cancer Support Division .
