Our fleet of ambulance drivers are often asked to carve out a slot in their schedule for injecting some joy into the life of a suffering cancer patient. Strongly influenced by the attitude of Rabbi Chananya Chollak, Founder of Ezer Mizion, rather than complain about the inconvenience in scheduling, the driver is grateful for the opportunity. Below is an email from one of our devoted drivers.

Good evening, dear friends.

I want to share with you a special trip I had today, from the morning until now.

I was asked by our department manager to take on a special transport for the Cancer Support services — an oncology child in very serious condition. The doctors have already given up hope, and he has not been receiving treatments for over a month. In addition, he has not left his home for more than a month and his spirits are very low.

Yesterday, I was asked to take him out on a trip, and I prayed that Hashem would place in my heart the understanding needed to take this child somewhere meaningful for him.

I took the boy, together with his uncle, to some truly amazing places. At the end of the trip, I brought him to Rabbi Shimon in Meron. The boy davened (prayed)and cried, soaking tissues with his tears. Afterwards, I took him to a restaurant, and now –at the end of an exhilarating day – I’ve just brought him back home.

He returned home very happy and deeply fulfilled. His parents were extremely grateful. They told me that, in addition to what I had done for the sick child, the trip allowed them to finally have quality time with their other children. They couldn’t stop thanking me and Ezer Mizion.

I want to take this opportunity to say a huge thankyou to our dear department manager and to the leadership of Ezer Mizion for everything you do for us and for the strength you give us to help others.

Recently  a young man with a serious mobility impairment and complex disability needed to get from his home in Bnei Brak to Laniado Hospital in Netanya for medical care and back. The patient and his family asked to that their deep appreciation be conveyed to the Ezer Mizion ambulance transport department and to all those whose generosity has helped them in so many ways.

The very special people who have sponsored and outfitted an ambulance have enabled non-stop critical doctor and rehab appointments and many other trips to happen. Regardless of wherever you are, whatever you are busy with, the vehicle is doing chessed every day, all day long.It is  bringing release and mobility to people who are locked in their bodies, making the world accessible to them. What a huge zechus (spiritual merit)!
